Glugglejug: Colorful carafes in cult fish design
In 1870, the first water jug in the shape of a fish was produced by the British manufacturer Thomas Forester & Sons. Back then, however, no one could have imagined that this jug would be the birth of a true cult object. It was not until some 88 years later that the design gained popularity, when two of these special jugs in rich green and decorated with the royal insignia were presented to the English royal couple. In Great Britain, the gurgling fish jugs from the "Glug Glug Jug" brand − more commonly known as "Gluckigluck" − have since belonged to the absolute classics for the home and are a popular gift and collector's item for fans of the unusual design. What makes them so special: The gurgling sound when you fill the Gluckigluck with water or pour from it.
Multi-functional: the Gluckigluck as carafe, vase or decoration in different colors
First and foremost, Gluckigluck is a ceramic water jug in the shape of a fish. Due to its sinuous, bulbous design, it produces a delightful gurgling sound when filled or when pouring, which also earned it the name "Gluckigluck". But the Gluckigluck is also used in many different ways! Whether it's a conversation starter as carafe on the well-laid table, as a colorful vase or as a decorative object, it rounds off every interior perfectly and sets colorful accents. Thanks to almost 20 different colors and three different sizes, everyone will find the perfect Gluckigluck to suit their taste! By the way: Here with us you can also find various special editions such as the Gluckigluck XL as a special edition in blue mother of pearl!

A fish jug conquers Germany
While in England the carafe has been an icon for over 100 years, the Gluckigluck carafe has not been available here in German-speaking countries for all that long. Only since 2014 has it also been conquering the hearts of German design lovers. The Gluggles or Gluckigluck fish are now also available in numerous concept stores such as our Lifestyle Concept Store Franzen!
Why Gluckigluck gurgles so much
Anyone who wants to know where the funny sound of the carafe comes from will now get the answer: the shape of the carafe - which is a little reminiscent of a fishhook - means that air bubbles keep getting into the end of the carafe, where they make the noise. When the carafe is put down, most of the air that had initially collected at the end escapes again in the form of bubbles, creating an even louder noise because this part of the carafe is even larger. It is also the air that bubbles merrily back and forth when swirling that makes the funny noise.
