A play on words - the Japanese negation (zaru) sounds similar to the Japanese word for monkey (saru) - gave rise to the connection to the well-known depictions. MEISSEN® artist Maria Walther reinterprets this guiding principle in the 41 cm high figure. In doing so, she makes the monkeys shine in an elaborately painted camouflage design.
